Frequently Asked Questions

  • My current fee is $205 for a 55-minute therapy session.

  • I am an out-of-network provider for most insurance plans. This means that you will pay the full fee at the time of your session. I will provide you with monthly invoices or “superbills” which you can use to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.

  • I am happy to set up a free, 15-20 minute phone consultation for prospective clients. These conversations provide the opportunity for you to gain a better feel for my approach and ask any questions you may have. Consultations are also a good time for us to discuss what is bringing you to therapy and what treatment might look like.  To set up a consultation, please contact me at (801) 515-8740 or email me at susan@susanmurphyphd.com.

  • I meet with most clients weekly, particularly when starting therapy. Some clients benefit from continuing to meet weekly through their time in therapy, while others may benefit from decreasing the frequency of their appointments as circumstances change.

The length of therapy varies widely and largely depends on your needs and goals. If your concerns are recent, relatively specific, or limited in impact, therapy might conclude within several months. If problems are long-standing or complex, then therapy can often span a year or more. The frequency and length of therapy is a collaborative decision.
