Specialty Areas

While I support adults with a wide variety of concerns, I specialize in a few areas.

Chronic pain

Living with chronic pain and other health issues involves so much more than daily discomfort. Individuals may experience significant losses - meaningful activities, relationships, an imagined future, a sense of self. The body may feel like an unsafe place to be. I work with clients who often appear “high functioning” but struggle internally with the exhaustion, loneliness, and grief that living in pain can bring. My general approach to working with clients experiencing pain is to understand their unique health history, restore feelings of safety in the body, and chart a course to reclaiming functioning and wellbeing on their terms. I typically employ a combination of experiential and emotion-focused techniques, mindfulness, and cognitive-behavioral therapy depending on a client’s particular goals. I am also certified in Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), which can be helpful for clients experiencing chronic pain not caused by an acute injury, inflammatory disease, or other underlying medical condition.

Anxiety

In today’s world, it can be easy for folks to find themselves in a state of constant worry. Anxiety can be fueled by large, existential forces and also more personal ones. I work with clients who report longstanding patterns of perfectionism, people-pleasing, and excessive self-criticism, and feeling exhausted and disconnected from their true wants and needs. I typically utilize cognitive-behavioral and experiential approaches to help clients achieve initial symptom management before shifting focus to addressing the underlying causes of anxiety.

Recovery from traumatic experiences

I have extensive experience treating trauma-related symptoms and disorders. Experiencing trauma can have a profound impact on a person’s nervous system, how they see themselves, and how they see the world. I am passionate about helping clients restore safety and trust within themselves and move forward in a way that respects what they have endured. I have helped clients resolve issues related to sexual trauma, combat trauma, childhood abuse, and longstanding, repetitive trauma, sometimes referred to as complex PTSD. I am trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure therapy (PE). I am in the process of becoming certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.
